First look or no first look, that is the question!
Now you are planning your wedding timeline.... overwhelming, isn't it? No worries, I am here to help!
The first and MOST important decision for constructing a timeline is to figure out whether or not you will have a first look prior to the ceremony or see each other for the first time on the isle. Seeing each other for the first time on the isle is the more traditional choice and was established during the arranged marriages and it became superstition to see one another before the wedding. The first look is the act of seeing each other prior to the ceremony.
Check it out below, after you decide whether or not you will see each other prior to the ceremony this will help determine if a large majority of pictures will be taken before or after the ceremony!
Now that you have decided about seeing each other prior to the ceremony this bracket will help figure out timing.
Not going to lie, as a photographer, I prefer for a first look for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, a first look can be so romantic and private for the 2 of you. During your big day you will have very little time alone. Yes, this is a huge day celebrating your union however, you are basically throwing a giant party for all of your friends and family. That's amazing... but it does not leave any alone time for you two to really understand the gravity of your day, the whole reason of this day.
This brings me to my second reason for enjoying the first look vs the traditional look. If you are anything like me, I HATE being the center of attention. We all know on your big day you are the very center of attention. This means you may get very emotional seeing your mate for the first time in front of your entire family and friends. So, I can appreciate the brides and grooms who do not want to display all of these emotions for the first time in front of everyone, and their mom.
Thirdly, frankly this is a selfish reason, a first look not only gives us plenty of time for those perfect pictures but also photographic a private moment is one reason why I enjoy weddings so much. Those sweet moments that others sometimes don't even get a glimpse into the very private emotions of a relationship. Just call me nosy, that's okay! I don't mind. I want to be right in the middle of your beautiful moment and catch all of the emotion of you and your partner and freeze that moment for the world to see.
With all of that said, there is definitely no right or wrong way to do your wedding, this is YOUR big day. You do exactly what you have always dreamed. I am ultimately here to help you achieve your visions and dreams about your day!
Let's chase the sun together and make your big day the most beautiful!
